The Keanu Reeves movie, you mean? Yeah, I was royally miffed by how they chose to portray the character. What was wrong with the idea of a Liverpudlian conman/ philanderer/ magus who smokes 60 cigarettes a day and always wears a brown trench coat? No-o, they had to turn him into a stoic, no-nonsense American excorcist who dresses only in black... X( Oh, you should definitely give the main series a read. Herogasm is great but, while it has some bearing on the story at large, it's mainly done for laughs and the artwork really isn't as good (in my opinion, at least).
Constantine would make a great TV series. That Spike fellow from Buffy isn't doing much these days. Get him.
I'll take it into consideration if I see a copy used or something (how I pick up most of my comics) but the "Superheroes are secretly jerks, and I'm here to take 'em down" thing is getting pretty played out by now. The Boys and Irredeemable put the last stamps on the package, I think.
The real appeal to The Boys is stuff like the character interactions and the dialogue, which are incredibly well done. Whenever it goes into superhero parody, it kinda tends to hit a lot of the same notes over and over. Herogasm's not particularly good because it's mostly the latter.
If you want a real intro to the series, I'd say try Butcher, Baker, and Candlestick Maker, the Butcher's origin story. Almost no superheroes at all, just some of the most organic and personal writing you're ever likely to find in a comic.
Hahaha! This is great XD Just read the final issue of The Boys, great ending but it's sorta sad not to be able to look forward to new issues anymore This picture made me think of Ennis's "The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe". I'd love a "The Boys kill the DC Universe"
